July Newsletter

Hello to my friends and fans!

Happy summer to you all.  I hope this finds you well.  July is going to be a full month for me with a diversity of shows.  I am excited to get to collaborate with so many amazing musicians and to play in these cool venues!
Tomorrow night in Portland, I’ll be offering a free show to wrap up a beautiful birthday month for me.  Come say hi!  I’ll be joined by Allen Hunter and Stuart Murray and I’ll be rocking my electric guitar and fiddle.
For something completely different, you can catch me in a truly unique venue…an old hayloft in Salem, OR.  This will be an acoustic concert.  For more info, email: sharonmooree@comcast.net .  It is an INCREDIBLE place to catch music!
Big Bridges will be releasing our new EP with great local show that kick off with an in store performance at Music Millennium and then shows in Eugene, Portland and Hood River.
Also, appearances with Robin Jackson and Ashleigh Flynn during the month!  And finally, I’ll be a part of The Billy Shears Orchestra performing Sgt. Pepper for its 50th birthday!  It will be epic, no doubt.
May you have a beautiful summer filled with love, happiness, creativity, abundance and lots of great music!
In peace-

Happy summer from Portland, Oregon.

There is a lot happening here and I am really excited about the next few weeks here in Oregon.

The Big Bridges Summer Tour starts tomorrow!  We will be kicking off the week long tour with a great show in downtown Portland.  All ages and free so bring the whole family.  I’ll play the first set from 5-6 and then Big Bridges plays 6-7pm.  Check out Big Bridges the next night at Alberta Street Pub with Timothy Hull opening.  We’ll also be guesting on Casey Neill’s set at the Dixie Mattress Festival and then playing shows in EUGENE, HOOD RIVER and PENDLETON.

I am thrilled to announce that my new album, “Bones Will Last” is finished.  It has been such an amazing process to make this album and I am excited to share it with the world.  I will be launching a Kickstarter campaign in August to help fund the manufacturing and release of the album.  There are some awesome incentives so stay tuned and see all the ways you can contribute to this release!

I will kick off the Kickstarter campaign on JULY 31st at Cathedral Park Place Studios in St. John’s.  In celebration, I’ll also be officially releasing my first ever music video and single, “The Fugue” which I made with director/filmmaker Martin Vavra.  The event will take place in the Gallery space and there will be a video screening, live music, snacks and drinks!  Come join me in celebrating this video and the upcoming release of “Bones Will Last”.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support!  Hope the summer is treating you well where ever you are, and that our paths cross soon!

May and June News

It is cool and overcast in Portland this morning, and I welcome it.  I can see the sun peaking out through the clouds.  Birds singing, flowers blooming.  I love this time of year.

It has been good to be based back home for the past couple months.  I shared a fabulous tour with The Lasses from Amsterdam in April.  Thank you again to everyone that came out to the shows.  Looking forward to touring with them again in Holland in the fall.

I have been in the process of finishing my album, Bones Will Last.  I engineered it with Jordan Leff at Secret Society.  Working with Jordan has been such a rich experience.  He has engineered 6 projects of mine and this will be the 7th.  Danny O’hanlon is mixing the album and I have been enjoying working with Danny in the context of the studio.  Both Jordan and Danny have approached this project with such care, support, creativity and patience and I feel honored to work with such steadfast and talented people.  Not to mention the performances that have been delivered in the studio from my band mates, Allen Hunter on bass, Zak Borden on mandolin and Don Henson on piano and percussion.  I am excited to share this album with all of you!

In the process of making Bones Will Last, we have recorded and developed enough material for a second album so I have decided to release Bones Will Last in 2016 and another body of material (featuring a more electric sound) in 2017.  Stay tuned!

I will be launching a kickstarter campaign in June to raise money and awareness for the project and help to offset the costs of the design/manufacturing and promotion of the album.   Your support is invaluable and I will be providing a lot of great options for contributing to this project from pre-ordering the CD or vinyl, to tee-shirts and trucker caps, to private parties or house concerts in your home, to a private violin lesson or songwriting workshop with me!  I look forward to sharing this album with all of you and thank you in advance for your help and ongoing support.  Details about how to get involved will be released soon!

I will also be shooting my first MUSIC VIDEO tomorrow in Cannon Beach with film maker, Martin Vavra of Galaxy Sailor Productions.  I am so excited to create this piece which is based around a photo I made in April with The Lasses.  It has turned into a video piece and though I know it will be cold to film tomorrow, I cannot wait to see what transpires.  Below is a still photo from the project in April.

I have some great gigs coming up at the end of this month in Seattle, Bainbridge Island and Port Angeles for the Juan De Fuca Festival of the Arts.  I will be playing with Zak Borden and Allen Hunter and will be sharing bills with the amazing Ashleigh Flynn.

In June I have one very special Portland show with Jonathan Brinkley and Robin Jackson at Mississippi Pizza so if you are in the area, come say hi!

I hope you are enjoying your day where ever you are and are finding inspiration and joy in the the things that truly matter to you.

Happy Holidays to my friends and fans near and far!

It has been an incredible fall for me with tours in Europe and Japan.  My European tour was from Sept. 24th-Oct. 25th.  One month of amazing shows and collaborations in The Netherlands and Belgium!  I did a series of concerts with The Lasses throughout Holland.  These shows were beautiful community gatherings, mostly in acoustically gorgeous old churches,  and it was exciting to get more connected to Sophie and Margot musically, professionally and personally.  I am excited to tour with them in the Northwest in April 2016!  Allen Hunter joined me for a great run of shows in Holland and Belgium.  We met so many amazing people, connected to some incredible musicians and artists and enjoyed the venues, cities and towns that we visited.  We plan to return in May to release my new album, Bones Will Last.  Europe is an incredible place to travel and I loved getting more connected to the people and communities I spent time in.  I brought my grandfather’s fiddle back to Holland for the first time in almost 80 years!  It was powerful to play it throughout the tour and to really feel his presence with me.

I returned home for a whirlwind 10 days in which I moved the last of my things out of my creative studio in the historic Towne Storage building.  I have been in and out of that studio since 2008 and I will greatly miss the community there and the beautiful space I had to create so much in the past 7 years!  In the midst of moving,  I played 5 shows and tried to get over my jet leg.  It was good to be home, but there was little time to really settle or process the tour in Europe before leaving for Japan!  I spent two weeks in Japan from Nov. 9th-23rd playing shows with Big Bridges as well as a week of shows with Casey Neill and Allen Hunter with special guests on our final show, Takeaki Nagahama and Takashi O’hashi.  This was Big Bridges’ 2nd tour with Takashi O’hashi in Japan but the first tour where we had Allen Hunter on bass and Derek Brown on drums.  We shared sold out shows with the amazing Japanese band Face to Ace and rocked our asses off!  It was a blast and the audiences and fans were simply amazing.  Casey and Allen and I enjoyed heading to Kyoto and Hiroshima for shows and had a superb sold out show in Tokyo to end the tour!

I returned home a week ago and am enjoying the cool crisp air here in Portland.  It is so clearly autumn now with the leaves deeply colored and beginning to fall.  I can feel winter just around the corner.  For those of you in the area during December I have some great shows coming up!  Check the schedule below.  I’ll be heading into the studio to finish recording Bones Will Last with the band and then will take off the 2nd half of December to write, regroup, recharge and rest in the quiet sanctuary of home here in Portland.  I look forward to celebrating the longest days of the year with family and friends, being quiet and still.  I am excited for the light to return and for all the wonderful adventures planned for 2016.

I hope this finds you well, enjoying where ever it is you are.  To my friends and fans near and far I send you much love and peace during the holiday season.  Thank you for your continued support.  I look forward to seeing you soon!

Hello everyone!  I am sitting at PDX getting ready to fly to DC to join the amazing Ashleigh Flynn for her upcoming tour with her band, The Porch Climbers.  I am thrilled to be playing fiddle and singing in her band as she winds through a great portion of the country I’ve never performed in.  We’ll be making an appearance at Delfest and hitting DC, Nashville, St. Louis, Louisville, Kansas City and a few other places.  Check out the schedule.

I return just in time to celebrate my birtday with a Dolly Parton tribute night at The Alberta Rose in Portland, OR.  I’ll be joined by Ara Lee, Zak Borden and Allen Hunter.  The following weekend I team up with the one and only Christopher Hayes for an acoustic “barn” concert in Salem.  I love playing with Chris and we’ll be busting out some our hits from our two tours to Europe!  Then I’ll be doing a special show with Bronnie Griffin and Betsy Branch featuring our three unique and different fiddle styles.  If you are in the Portland area, all three of these shows are a must see.

I will be going into the studio mid-june to continue work on my upcoming album, Bones Will Last, due out in December 2015.  This album is evolving organically and I am excited to be back in the studio after my incredible trip to India.  The music is definitely shifting and it will be exciting to capture some of the new songs I have written.

July will have a run of shows with Big Bridges in the Pacific Northwest.  We’ll be heading back to Japan in November with the full band to do another tour.  I am excited to be able to share the music with greater audiences at home and look forward to being back in Japan with everyone.

I hope to see you soon and that this finds you well.  If you’ll excuse me, I have to catch my flight!  Here is to the road…

In Peace – Kathryn Claire

Autumn New 2014

It was a full and inspiring summer to say the least.  I had the great fortune of playing, touring and collaborating with an incredible roster of musicians including Ashleigh Flynn, Robin Jackson, Takahsi O’hashi, Casey Neill, Alejandro Escavedo, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Bob Soper, Elizabeth Nicholson, Zak Borden, Cary Novony, Danny O’hanlon, Kevin Burke, Bronnie Griffin, Christopher Hayes, Don Henson, Skip Vonkuske, Caroline Keys and Ara Lee.  I saw an incredible amount of music and met many great musicians.  I feel so grateful to speak the universal language of music, and have renewed faith in the power of music to create peace and connect people around the planet.  I feel sure that the energy of the summer will continue to fuel and inspire my fall and winter.

The summer also brought out some new original music.  I have been writing new songs and instrumental tunes and have begun to record them in anticipation of a new album (or maybe double album) of original and traditional music.  I head back to Europe for the greater part of October and will be making a trip to California and the east coast in November.  December will feature a run of Winter themed shows in celebration of the holidays.  I hope to see you soon at a show or out in the world!  Until then, stay tuned for new music and upcoming tour dates.  In peace – KC

Heading to Europe

Looking forward to the upcoming European tour.  I will be joined for part of the tour by the one and only Chris Hayes.  Here is a video from our final rehearsal before the tour.  I love this song.  I learned it from the awesome Tokyo based Irish band, O’phan, and it has become one of my favorites.  Chris is working on adding ukelele to a lot of our material and it sounds so great!  Enjoy!
